Forni di Sopra / The church of San Floriano

A small and simple construction of the 15th century – as often happens – conceals great treasures. This is the case in the Church of San Floriano, one of the most interesting places of art in all of Carnia. In it, in fact, one can admire a cycle of frescoes in the presbytery by Gianfrancesco da Tolmezzo (1500), that demonstrates his formal and poetic qualities, even if the work of greater merit is certainly the polyptych (1480) executed by Andrea Bellunello. Such a painting represents the masterpiece of the painter, in which, within a gothic frame, San Floriano is depicted in the centre and other saints in the lateral sections, while in the apexes the Resurrection and the Annunciation: elegant forms and bright colours, that epitomize the lesson of the great painting of Veneto.
